The President of Afghanistan discusses investment opportunities

On October 04, President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan in a meeting at the Afghan Presidential Palace in Kabul with Robert Mosbacher, Jr., President & Chief Executive Officer of the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), discussed ways for more investment by US companies in Afghanistan as well as OPICís role in providing facilities for Afghan investors.
Both sides discussed contribution by the OPIC to Afghan small and medium industry as well as energy generation using local resources.

Mosbacher also added that some American companies like Coca Colla and Heins expressed willing to invest in various areas and produce inside Afghanistan many of the needed items.

He announced that the OPIC is ready and in talks with Afghan investment support agencies to support up to 70 % the project expenses of Afghan small and medium industry and the Afghan-American joint ventures.

OPIC President and CEO announced that the construction work of the 229-room, five-star hotel managed by Marriott International will commence in Kabul by the end of the Holy month of Ramazan.

In the areas of energy generation at the request of Afghan government, Mr. Mosbacher said they are currently studying Sheberghan gas mines and will provide Afghan government with a proposal on the exploration.

He discussed other possible ways like coal mines in generating energy for Afghanistan.
