KABUL, Sept 27 (Pajhwok Afghan News): The Indigo Carpet Association - providing a fresh approach to carpet-making - will open a new showroom in the capital on Friday
Brought together by Kabul carpet designer Javed Halimi, the 10 members of the association represent some of the best young minds, creating innovative contemporary designs and reworking traditional patterns.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the association said the showroom would serve as its headquarters as well as a place for those interested in purchasing Indigo carpets.
In addition, the statement added, the showroom would be a visitors center, where the carpet-weaving process could be seen on a loom and samples of natural dyes and wools at various stages of processing would be on display.
The types of carpets made by Indigo are varied, but all members share a strong commitment to quality. The best wools and silks, much of it vegetable-dyed, woven by master craftsmen in villages all over Afghanistan, are basic to Indigos carpets.
